SYMBIO, a three-year project funded by the Horizon Europe Programme, has taken off. The SYMBIO initiative aims to provide European regional communities with tools and methodological approaches to building bio-based business models based on circularity by design and industrial symbiosis.
Thanks to instruments for integrating big data and artificial intelligence, the collaborative project advises and guides participants in developing and implementing new ways to increase bio-based products on the market and provides a set of techniques for measuring its social, economic and environmental impacts.
SYMBIO, coordinated by Lombardy Green Chemistry Association (Italy), was granted about 1,3 million euros and its methodology will be tested and validated in 12 EU pilot regions (Lombardy, Piedmont, Veneto, Friuli-Venezia Giulia, Emilia-Romagna, Carinthia, Slovenia, Croatia, Andalusia, Bruxelles Capital, Wallonia and Flanders) that have been selected based on the estimation of their bio-based resources.
To achieve its objectives, the project benefits from the experience of eight partners from seven EU countries, bringing together the expertise of universities, clusters, and companies.
From Milan… to a greener future!
SYMBIO’s kick-off event was recently held in Milan (Italy). During the meeting, the representatives of the eight partners discussed the scope and structure of the project and shared impressions on the challenges that a transnational project of this scale could bring.
